AFFL 2025 OFFICIAL RULES
Commissioner: Scott Anderson; cell 330-620-6220; sbason@roadrunner.com
League website: http://www47.myfantasyleague.com/2025/home/46768
League home page: www.asonffl.com
Carefully review these guidelines to prepare for the 2025 season (rules changes from last year are shown in green).
1. Study these rules. Questions and clarifications will be addressed at the Genuine Draught day party held Tue. 9/2, 6:30pm at Mogadore Moose (Mogadore OH). During the season, amendments to the rules require unanimous vote of team owners. Additions and clarifications to the rules are made at the Commissioner's discretion. During the off-season, rules may be amended or added by the Commissioner, to be agreed upon with majority vote of team owners the following year.
2. Pay your $100 franchise fee. No money, no team. The full, non-refundable $100 fee will be due at the Genuine Draught draft. If you cannot make payment on or before draft day, contact Commish prior to draft day to make arrangements. Failure to pay dues when due could result in immediate loss of your franchise. Make checks payable to Scott Anderson.
3. Decide on your team name. Last year's names will be assumed. Divisions have been re-aligned, so your division name geography may have changed. You may change your team name on or before draft day. The conventional geographic location and mascot name is a guideline, but not required. Be clever, but clean - with one exception. Last year's Toilet Bowl loser must incorporate some reference to toilet or toilet usage in their name. This name must be agreed upon by all other owners. Last year's Toilet Crapper team was Tybee Tide. Feel free to offer your crappy name suggestions before or on draft day.
4. Prepare for draft day. Study NFL players/teams and gather literature/notes to bring on draft day. Limited reports and/or Cheat Sheets will be provided by Commish to share amongst owners on draft day.
5. Show up for draft on time. No show, no team. If you cannot attend the draft personally, you may draft on-line via the league website, or send a representative to draft for you. The rep cannot be another A-Son league owner. Do not be late! Missed draft picks due to tardiness or online draft clock expiration can be made up after completion of the draft from the remaining player pool at that time. Genuine Draught day party commences on Tue. 9/2, 6:30pm. A quick rules meeting will be held before the draft to review this year's changes. Better halves are welcome. Drinks and snacks will be provided.
6. Understand draft day rules.
a. 16 teams from 4 divisions will draft 13 players each.
Each team may keep 1 player from last year's roster. The first round of the draft will be the "keeper" round. Keeper round draft order is determined by 2 lottery selections weighted by the previous year's overall playoff finish.
Toilet Lottery: The first 8 draft spots are determined by a lottery ball selection of the previous year’s 9th – 16th place teams (Toilet playoff teams). Each team gets 1 starting ball. Additional balls are given as follows – 15th place + 1 ball, 14th place + 2 balls, …, 9th place + 7 balls. When a team’s ball is picked, the team owner chooses any open draft spot (1-16) that has not already been taken. If the owner is not present to choose or has not pre-notified Commish of their intent, the lowest number available draft spot (1, 2, 3…) will be assigned.
Fantossy Lottery: The final 8 draft spots are determined by a second lottery ball selection of the previous year’s 1st– 8th place teams (Fantossy playoff teams). Each team gets 1 starting ball. Additional balls are given as follows – 8th place + 1 ball, 7th place + 2 balls, …, 1st place + 7 balls. When a team’s ball is picked, the team owner chooses any open draft spot (1-16) that has not already been taken. If the owner is not present to choose or has not pre-notified Commish of their intent, the lowest number available draft spot (1, 2, 3…) will be assigned.
The Toilet and Fantossy lottery selections take place at the end of season Champ-N-Chumps party. One bonus ball is given to teams who attend the Champ party or call in and talk to the Champ and/or Commish during the party prior to the lottery ball selections.
The better finish in respective Toilet or Fantossy playoff, the better chance of a better draft slot for your team the following year. This lottery system should motivate teams to remain competitive thru the end of the season and minimize tendencies to “throw in the towel”. This in turn should minimize unbalanced trades to acquire keepers, un-submitted or incomplete end of year lineups, etc. that result in weaker than normal competition during the most important weeks of the season – the playoffs!
b. Team draft order for rounds 2-13 will be the same 1-16 order as determined above, using a serpentine method as follows:
1st pick thru 16th pick for rounds 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13
16th pick thru 1st pick for rounds 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12.
c. Owners may keep 1 player from their previous year ending roster as their 1st round draft choice, or not keep a player and draft in the 1st round. Keepers will be submitted and announced right before the drafting of players begins.
d. Each draft pick must be announced before timer reaches 0:00. Failure to pick in time will result in the loss of that pick. A makeup selection (no charge) will be made after the draft to fill the roster spot.
Rounds 1 thru 13 = 1:30 min each.
e. Trades are not permitted during the draft – players or picks.
7. Participate in weekly regular season play.
a. AFFL regular season uses the first 14 weeks of the NFL season. Week #1 begins Thu. 9/4, week #14 ends Mon. 12/8.
b. Each week, your team plays one other team in head-to-head competition - most AFFL points scored wins the game. Equal scores will count as a tie (no tie-breakers).
c. You will play each team in your division two times. You will play 8 other teams once. There will be only 4 teams you will not play during the regular season.
d. Each week you select your starting team of 8 players: 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 K, 1 DEF.
You must submit your complete starting lineup by kickoff of the first Sunday game. If there are early games prior to Sun. (sometimes Thu. or Sat.) you must submit your starting players in these early games by kickoff of their game, but do not have to submit your other starters until Sun. If no lineup is submitted, your starters from the previous week will be assumed. Lineups are to be submitted online using the league’s website. If you are not able to use the website, contact Commish so he can enter your lineup into the website.
e. Tight ends are optional and are considered wide receivers.
f. The team selected as your Defense is also your Special team selection. Their scoring is combined.
g. Points are scored and accumulated as follows:

h. Players started on offense will not be credited individual points scored on defense (e.g. Troy Brown returns an interception for a touchdown).
i. Multi-position players (e.g. K. Stewart's Slash years) are assigned 1 position by the league website. The player can only be started at this assigned position.
j. Weekly scores, standings, transactions, rosters, etc. will be up-to-date and available on the league website. You can select reports to be automatically emailed to you using the website’s Owners Franchise Setup menu. Contact Commish if this online report access will not work for you.
8. Improve your team throughout the season. Continually monitor the performance of your AFFL team's players, other AFFL teams' players and AFFL free agents. Post-draft roster changes are strongly encouraged!
a. "Trade" players. You may "trade" your player(s) with another AFFL team's player(s). Trades can be proposed, accepted and executed online using the league’s website. If you are not able to use the website, contact Commish so he can enter your trade into the website. If foul-play is suspected, Commissioner may deny the trade and/or call for an owner majority vote to allow or disallow the trade. Trades are $2 per obtained player per team. Trade deadline is week #12 Sun. 1pm.
b. "Add" free agents. You may drop an active player on your roster to "add" a free agent from waivers (player not on an AFFL roster). Adds are $2 per player, drops are no charge. Waivers are permitted until week #18 Sun. 1pm. Rosters must stay at or below the maximum of 13 players.
c. “Waiver” periods. There will be several waiver request periods during each week, when you can enter request(s) to add/drop player(s). At the end of each waiver request period, adds/drops will be awarded subject to a team waiver order. This order will put the teams in most need of help near the top of the list - based on worst-to-best winning percentage, total points, etc. - and will be updated after each week’s play. If more than 1 team requests the same player in the same waiver period, the team higher on the waiver order gets the player. If only 1 team requests a certain player during a waiver period, that team gets the player regardless of waiver order. Dropped players become immediately available for waivers – no lockouts.
Waiver periods will be:
Waiver request period #1: Sun. 1pm to Tue. 5am; waivers processed.
Waiver request period #2: Tue. 5am to Thu. 5am; waivers processed.
First come first served: Thu. 5am to Sun. 1pm.
d. “Injured Reserve” spot. Your team has one IR spot to put a non-suspended, non-holdout player that has an injury designation of IR or is on the NFL Reserve/COVID-19 list. That opens up a roster spot for you to add another player. The player moved to your IR spot remains on your team but cannot be put into your starting lineup. The player stays on your IR spot indefinitely until you open up a roster spot and activate the IR/COVID player to it. A player on your IR spot at the end of the season is eligible as a keeper for the next season.
e. Each team's transaction charges are accumulated and recorded into the league Accounting report. These charges will come due at Commissioner's discretion - normally at the end of the season. Failure to pay dues when due could result in immediate loss of your franchise!
f. Each week of the regular season and playoffs, the team with the highest score will receive a $2 credit off their Accounting balance.
9. Determine your post-season status.
a. Division winner. The 4 teams with the best win/loss records in their respective divisions are division winners. Each division winner automatically makes the FanTossy playoffs, regardless of record. Winning criteria and tiebreakers are:
1) overall win % (tie=0.5 win); 2) division win %; 3) head-to-head win %;
4) total points; 5) division points; 6) head-to-head points.
b. FanTossy Bowl playoffs. The 4 division winners and the next 4 best win/loss records will play for the FanTossy Bowl Championship (seeding criteria shown below). This will be a single-elimination playoff tournament - winners advance toward championship (higher seed wins tie); losers play consolation games to determine overall finish. Quarter-finals will be played week #15, semi-finals played week #16, FanTossy Bowl played week #17. Seeding criteria is:
1) division winner; 2) overall win % (tie=0.5 win); 3) total points;
4) head-to-head win %; 5) head-to-head points; 6) division points.
c. Toilet Bowl playoffs. The remaining 8 teams not making the FanTossy playoffs will play for the Toilet Bowl Crappership (seeding based on 9b above). This will be a single-elimination playoff tournament - losers advance toward crappership (lower seed loses tie); winners play consolation games to determine overall finish. Quarter-finals will be played week #15, semi-finals played week #16, Toilet Bowl played week #17.
d. Fantasy Farewell game. All teams will play against each other the last week of the NFL season, week #18. Highest total points score wins. Your overall finish (1-16) in this game will determine your division for the following AFFL season, determined as follows:
Arctic: 1,2,15,16; Atlantic: 3,4,13,14; Pacific: 5,6,11,12; Tropic: 7,8,9,10.
e. If the NFL season is cut short such that there are less than 7 AFFL regular season games played, there will be no Champion, 2-16 place finishers or prizes awarded and your $100 franchise fee will be refunded. If the NFL season is cut short but we have 7 or more AFFL games played, AFFL Champion, Runner-up and remaining place finishes down to the Toilet Bowl Crapper will be determined by FanTossy and Toilet playoff seeding criteria defined above. This will be the default AFFL guideline but may be changed with a 67% owner approval of a new proposal to allow flexibility depending on how the NFL handles a shortened season.
f. Money winners. Payouts are cumulative and will be distributed at the Champ-n-Chumps party at the end of the season.
